Jim Lewis, age 66, a 36 year resident of Fort Lauderdale has chosen to run for Mayor of Fort Lauderdale in the November 2024 nonpartisan election.
He is a graduate of the University of Central Florida with a B.A. in public administration (1978), and a Law Degree from Stetson University, College of law (1980).
Jim Lewis has practiced law in Fort Lauderdale for 32 years primarily in criminal defense. Previously he was an assistant State Attorney, Special Prosecutor for Governor Bob Graham, Assistant Statewide Prosecutor in Florida’s Attorney General’s office, and Adjunct Law Professor at Nova Southeastern University.
Jim Lewis announced he is running because “Fort Lauderdale needs new leadership and a new direction. We need a city government that plans for the future instead of managing crisis after crisis because of poor planning by our city government. Fort Lauderdale needs a city government that pays attention to the residents needs instead of relentless developer wants. Fort Lauderdale city government needs to partner with the government of Broward County to solve problems and not just make excuses why things are not getting done.
We need a Mayor who values the hard work of our Police, Firefighters, and other city employees without an agenda to make social change, let Fort Lauderdale be Fort Lauderdale.”
The motto for the Jim Lewis Campaign is “Our City….Our Way”
